Ash Maurice Cairo, the man who single-handedly hooked me on Shoutcast and as such helped conceive DJ McFox's Gamecast, also donated a lot of video game music during the first few years of the show. While most of what he contributed was in digital format, at one point he actually handed me a soundtrack and told me to keep it. The disc, a collection of remixes from Street Fighter Alpha 2, was home to one of the catchiest songs I'd heard in a long time. Dan's Old Skool Mix not only was fast, jumpy, and full of great vocal mix-ups, it was also a remix of my favorite Street Fighter series character's theme music! Dan Hibiki and his mastery of the Saikyo style was ready to once again prove its merit! This track was actually one of the first tracks I experimented
with, splicing the song down to a reasonable time in Sonic Foundry’s
Sound Forge. I learned, through this song and Who
the Hell are You?, how to use an old Step-fu program called
BMS Creator. Programmed
primarily to aid in the development of beatmania
simulator files,
this software was counterintuitive at best when used to create
DDR simfiles. However, it was all that I knew how to use at the
time. Imagine the weight that was lifted when Dance With Intensity
was released! The new simulator's readme and its explanation
of the new stepfile format was simple and concise. With Notepad quickly becoming my
Step-fu
program
of
choice, Dan's Old-Skool Mix found its way into Plaguemix
One, completely
spared from the fate that fell upon the rest of my early BMS creations. |
