One of the rules I've tried to follow from the beginning was that I would not use any songs from artists who were already featured in Dance Dance Revolution. I felt that by avoiding this, I would be introducing other artists -- groups who might benefit from exposure in this medium moreso than well-established DDR Artists.

As evidenced by this track, that rule has been broken. Consider it an exception more than an outright removal of the previous rule, though! Captain Jack's had his share of songs enter the hallowed halls of official DDR material; in fact, he has far more songs in the various DDR mixes than most other artists! All the same, one particular song of his stuck out in my mind while I was thoroughly enjoying Dancemania X9: 1-2-3. Nestled between L.O.V.E. and Future Girls on that compilation album, 1-2-3 is a straightforward beat set squarely in Captain Jack's usual flair.

Each consecutive time I heard that song, I found myself drumming out steps. However, most of those steps were arranged to the rhythm of the vocals; many shun steps that are built around vocal patterns, calling them Karaoke Steps. Whether or not they're always considered a detriment to stepwriting has yet to be determined, but I do believe that when done with moderation, they don't hurt as much as some might claim they do. As with all songs and all step patterns, however, moderation and variation are key!

With that in mind, I created 1-2-3 in an attempt to bring a fresh new original out in Captain Jack's name, just in time for the release of Plaguemix Three.
