While I was listening to Ridge Racer Type 4’s soundtrack – the same one that Eat ‘Em Up! came from – I found myself grooving to most of the awesome tunes on the disc. One tune in particular stood out as an incredibly smooth trip: lucid rhythms. While Eat ‘Em Up! may stand out for its bouncy nature and nostalgic value, lucid rhythms caught my attention because it really stood out on the album as a more relaxed tune. At the same time, the percussion never let up, giving the song the beat it needed to keep me listening.

I can’t say for sure that lucid rhythms is my favorite track on the album, but at the time, it filled a gap in my stepwriting – I needed a song that would let me explore the BPM-halving gimmick seen in songs like era ~nostalmix~ and Let’s Groove. While some may abhor BPM tricks, I felt that, in moderation, they could go a long way in adding to a song’s overall impression. With that in mind, this classy tune became the only song in Plaguemix Two with a BPM change.
